Another Reason Why You Should Exercise!

exercise-pain-relief

Exercise is more than a way to lose weight. Movement can help reduce pain by strengthening muscles and keeping joints loose.

Here are some tips to help get you moving and find pain relief through exercise:

  • Start slowly and ease yourself into a routine if you haven’t exercised in a while. Build yourself up gradually and you should notice better range of movement and increased strength.
  • Low-impact exercises like swimming, stretching, gentle weight lifting, yoga and walking that are gentle on your joints is a good choice.
  • Remember that exercise need not include the gym. Cleaning the house, raking leaves and playing actively with your kids all count as movement.

Don’t forget to pace yourself! On days when you’re not feeling your best, choose easy, slower activities and don’t be hard on yourself if you need to take a break.

*Consult with your doctor prior to beginning a new exercise regimen.

Hide & Seek: The Female G-Spot

g-spot

The latest buzz in the world of sexual health is the potential discovery of the female G-spot. With many believing it to be a major trigger for enhancing female orgasm and others claiming it doesn’t exist, the elusive G-spot has been the subject of debate for years.

The discovery was made by Dr. Adam Ostrzenski, a gynecologist in St. Petersburg, Fla. He describes the G-spot as a “bluish grape-like composition” with a distinct head, middle and tail, along with a rope-like vessel emerging from the tail into the surrounding tissue. It is located in the dorsal perineal membrane of the front vaginal wall, says Dr. Ostrzenski.

Not everyone is convinced that Dr. Osrtrzenski is on the cusp of groundbreaking discovery, arguing that he found it in only one woman — if at all. This will certainly be an interesting story to keep an eye on!

Let’s Talk About Fertility

infertility-talk

Seeing women from across the nation join together in honor of National Infertility Awareness Week has been a true inspiration. Earlier this afternoon, Redbook Magazine hosted an excellent discussion on infertility on its Facebook page. The conversation was led by Keiko Zoll, author of the well-known blog The Infertility Voice.

Here are some highlights of the conversation: (Click to enlarge pictures)

Why do you think it’s so hard to

talk about infertility?

This year’s theme of NIAW is Don’t Ignore.

What are things we shouldn’t ignore about infertility?

Where do you find support?

The event was a clear win-win for the infertility community. In addition to providing a forum for important questions, it helped benefit RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association – one of the event sponsors agreed to donate funds to RESOLVE based on how poplar/active the discussion became.

Wurn Technique as a Pre IVF Treatment?

“If I had just known about Clear Passage Physical Therapy and just done the research early on and found out about this place, it would have just saved us so much. It saved my world. It changed my world. I wish I would have known that early on. It would have made so much a difference for us.”

How does it work?

Uterine adhesions, spasm and cervical conditions – fibrosis (stiffening) or stenosis (closing) – can complicate an IVF transfer, hinder embryo implantation, and prevent pregnancy. We decrease adhesions and spasm, and improve mobility and function of the cervix and uterus using the Wurn Technique.  Following treatment of the area, we find that positive changes are generally palpable to us and to your physician. IVF transfer then becomes easier and implantation rates appear to increase significantly.

A Clear Passage patient became pregnant after treatment with the Wurn Technique

Success with Clear Passage Physical Therapy

Success rates with IVF remain around 30% per attempt and 41% per transfer, as reported by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The Wurn Technique (practiced by Clear Passage physical therapists), has been shown to increase in vitro fertilization (IVF) success rates to 67% when used prior to IVF transfer.

Women who had not become pregnant in two or more prior IVF attempts achieved a 71% pregnancy rate and 57% live birth rate with their first IVF after receiving this therapy. As is the case with the patient in the video, who endured seven failed IVF cycles and later became pregnant after receiving therapy at Clear Passage.

It’s a Man’s World…At Least When It Comes to Migraines

migraine.womanThere may be yet another reason for women to think that men have it easy. According to recent studies done by UCLA’s Department of Neurology, women are much more prone to migraines than men.

Migraine triggers include:

  • Environmental Changes
    • sounds
    • light
    • smells
    • movement
  • Genes — migraine risk is hereditary

However, according to the UCLA research the greatest migraine trigger is actually hormonal fluctuation. And—you guessed it—women are more susceptible to these ups and downs than men are. Once girls begin to menstruate, hormones levels begin fluctuating and the number of migraines they get goes up significantly.

It’s a shame that lots of drugs on the market decrease the pain and length of a migraine but don’t address its root cause. Learn about alternative treatment options for migraine and headache pain.
