Small Bowel Obstruction eBook

Many people suffer from debilitating chronic pain and discomfort due to small bowel obstruction . Often times this  pain is a mechanical obstruction due to adhesions that form. Many times the only option is a highly restricted diet or an  invasive surgical procedure to cut away the part of the bowel that is obstructed with adhesions. Surgery, however, is also the cause of more adhesion formation, so though a surgical procedure may provide relief temporarily, the pain and dysfunction often return as more adhesions form. This can begin a never ending cycle of surgeries that can be both risky and costly.  There is a natural alternative treatment for small bowel obstruction called the Wurn Technique®. You can read more about this natural treatment by reading our Small Bowel Obstruction eBook.

This eBook describes the cause and treatment of adhesions which can cause pain and dysfunction in the abdomen. Adhesions are thick fibrous bands of scar tissue that form following a trauma or surgery. These adhesions can attach to the delicate tissues of the small bowel and act as an adhesive glue that slows or stops regular function. The Wurn Technique® is a hands-on physical therapy has been shown to decrease pain and increase function by pulling apart these adhesions strand by strand. This allows the body to return to normal function.

Share this information with someone you know who suffers from small bowel obstruction, and help them find a path to a better life.

Adhesions Video with Larry Wurn – Clear Passage Physical Therapy, a natural treatment

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Larry Wurn, Research Director of Clear Passage Therapies, discusses manual physical therapy (Wurn Technique) to treat internal adhesions and scarring.

Adhesions naturally form as part of the healing process after an infection, inflammation, surgery, or trauma.  Unfortunately, the body has no natural way to dissolve adhesions. As such, they can cause pain or dysfunction, including nearly half of all female infertility.

Clear Passage Physical Therapy is designed to decrease internal adhesions, reduce pain, and increase function, naturally and permanently.

Online Holiday Shopping: Seven Steps to Limit Back and Neck Pain

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Clear Passage Therapies offers seven steps to help shoppers avoid stiffness and back and neck pain while shopping online this Holiday season.

Gainesville, FL (PRWEB) December 3, 2008 – As the Christmas season begins, more and more shoppers are turning to their computers to find the perfect gifts. Clear Passage Therapies, a recognized leader in manual physical therapy for adhesions, pain, and infertility, offers seven steps to help online holiday shoppers ease or eliminate pain.

Larry Wurn, Director of Clinical Studies, Clear Passage Therapies, and co-author of a new book Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, says, “Poor posture and increased time at the computer can lead to head, neck, and shoulder pain and stiffness.â€

Wurn suggests the following tips to improve online shopping stamina and avoid postures that can cause pain:

  1. Start with a solid foundation – find a good chair that supports your back and forearms.
  2. Your feet should touch the floor. If they don’t, use a footrest to give yourself additional support.
  3. Adjust the height of your computer screen to the same level as your eyes. Wurn says, “If your screen is adjusted too low, the muscles at the back of your neck work overtime, causing chronic neck and shoulder pain or headaches at the base of the skull.â€
  4. Avoid hunching forward since this causes neck strain and spasm. If you keep a reverse curve in your low back, your upper body will generally be in a near-perfect position to relieve strain. You can put a small pillow or little section of the newspaper in your low back to remind you to sit up straight. According to Wurn, “When you need to lean closer to the screen, bend from the hips, not the low back.â€
  5. Let your shoulders relax. The body is more stable when the shoulders are down, resting on the torso. If you are not sure whether your shoulders are relaxed, lift them once and then let them drop.
  6. Get up and move at least once every hour – more often if possible. Mobility is an essential part of life and helps avoid chronic pain.
  7. Support your forearms by placing them on the arm-rests of your chair. Ideally, your wrists should be slightly lower than your elbows.

Wurn writes more about chronic pain and posture, and treatment for people with chronic pain in Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, a book he is co-authoring to be published in January. The table of contents is available at the Clear Passage Therapies blog to spur discussions with readers on important topics. A free e-book excerpt from the book will be available in December at http://www.clearpassage.com.

Adhesions and Surgery: New Book, “Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain,†Examines Breaking the Endless Cycle of Pain

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Belina Wurn, PT treats a patient with her manual physical therapy which has been shown to reduce adhesions, decrease pain, and improve function, in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Post-surgical adhesions can cause chronic pain and dysfunction if left untreated. In an upcoming book ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain,’ researchers examine a non-surgical therapy developed to treat adhesions.

Gainesville, FL (PRWEB ) October 29, 2008 –Surgeries save lives, but they often create glue-like adhesions as the body heals from surgery. Post-surgical adhesions can cause pain and even life-threatening problems, such as bowels that become blocked and lose their function.

In an upcoming book, ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain,’ researchers examine a non-surgical therapy (Wurn TechniqueÒ) that has decreased or eliminated adhesions in many patients, including abdominal adhesions and post- surgical adhesions.

Many pelvic and abdominal surgeries require repeat surgery – to remove the adhesions that formed from the earlier surgery. Abdominal adhesions occur in over 90% of patients after major abdominal surgery and pelvic adhesions occur in 55-100% of women who undergo pelvic surgery, according to a study in the journal ‘Digestive Surgery’ (2001). In a large study published in ‘Lancet’ (1999), over a third of patients who underwent major abdominal or pelvic surgery were re-hospitalized at least twice to treat adhesion related conditions.

The Wurn Technique® was created to treat the adhesions physical therapist Belinda Wurn developed after pelvic surgery. “I had double-over pain,†she said. “I could not work or stand up straight. It hurt to sit and even to breathe; the pain was always there.â€

Wurn did not want to undergo a repeat surgery, knowing that more adhesions would likely form. Her husband, Larry Wurn, joined her in a search for a ‘hands-on’ answer. “We basically searched the world for an answer,†he said. “Each new piece we learned brought us that much closer to a cure.â€

The Wurns have now published several studies on the manual physical therapy in peer-reviewed medical journals.

“Our biggest surprise was the variety of conditions that responded well to the therapy,†Belinda said. “Post-surgical pain patients responded well – then, we started seeing improvements in infertile women. When the therapy opened blocked fallopian tubes, we named our clinic Clear Passage Therapies.â€

Studies in ‘Medscape General Medicine’ (2004) and ‘Fertility and Sterility’ (2006) showed that the therapy improved fertility and decreased or eliminated endometriosis and intercourse pain in most participants. In a study from ‘Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine’ (2008) the therapy opened blocked fallopian tubes in women who had been diagnosed infertile. Most had natural pregnancies after their tube(s) opened, and several had second natural pregnancies – indicating that the results of therapy lasted for years for some women.

‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain’ will be published this winter; Larry and Belinda Wurn with research gynecologist, Richard King, MD, are co-authoring the book. The table of contents is available at the Clear Passage Therapies blog to spur discussions with their readers on important topics. A free e-book excerpt from the book will be available soon at Clear Passage Therapies.
