The authors of ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain’ prepare for their September 15 book publication and announce the launch of their social media and news site on adhesions, infertility, sexual dysfunction, and pain.

Gainesville, FL, September 11, 2009 – ‘Miracle Moms’ co-authors Larry and Belinda Wurn, recognized leaders in non-surgical treatment for female infertility and chronic adhesion pain, launch www.miraclemoms.net. This new site is geared towards news and online social connections about subjects in their upcoming book, ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain: A Remarkable Journey in Hands-on Healing for Infertility, Pain, Sexual Dysfunction, and Adhesions.’

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, an estimated six million women in the US experience infertility, and that number is growing. Ovulation problems account for a big part of female infertility; warning signs include irregular or absent menstruation. Adhesions and blocked fallopian tubes are also major causes of infertility. Fallopian tubes can become blocked by adhesions after surgery, trauma, infection, or inflammation.

Adhesions can form whenever the body heals from infection, inflammation, surgery or trauma. Pelvic and abdominal surgeries such as laparoscopy, C-section or D&C are primary causes of adhesions. Traumas such as auto accident, fall, or abuse also cause adhesions. Infection and inflammation (endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or STD) can all cause adhesions to form in the bowel or female reproductive organs. As adhesions grow, they can restrict normal body function and cause pain and dysfunction, including nearly half of all female infertility.

Many women with endometriosis are able to become pregnant through conventional treatment methods such as laparoscopic surgery, IUI, and IVF. Other women who do not have success with conventional treatment methods or who are uncomfortable with these options turn to alternative therapies and become pregnant.

But what if you have tried both and have still not experienced success? It may be time to try using conventional and alternative methods in conjunction with each other. Although conventional medicine and alternative therapies often present themselves as mutually exclusive, the combination of the two types of medicine can bring great success.

Endometriosis (the purple cells) and their adhesive attachments (white bands) can lead to infertility

At Clear Passage Therapies (CPT), we strive to prepare the entire body for a pregnancy by addressing mechanical components that may block fallopian tubes, restrict the uterus, and impair hormonal infertility. Our treatment has helped numerous women become pregnant naturally, in addition to preparing over 75 women for successful IVF transfers.

Our treatment for endometriosis works by focusing on the adhesions that form at and around endometrial implants. Adhesions can impair fertility by constricting, blanketing, and pulling on the sensitive female reproductive structures. Adhesions can also pull on the ligaments of the uterus, causing uterine spasm. If a woman undergoes an IVF procedure, the embryo may not successfully implant because of adhesions or the resulting uterine spasm. Similarly, a woman who undergoes laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis may still be unable to conceive afterward because of adhesions present within the reproductive tracts or its ligaments. Because the female reproductive structures can be so delicate, it can be very difficult for a surgeon to remove adhesions from them without compromising the function of those organs.

CPT physical therapists use manual physical therapy techniques to gently break apart the adhesions in and around the reproductive system. The techniques have been shown to help women become pregnant or later have a successful IVF transfer.

One such woman was Samantha, a woman who came to our clinic after several unsuccessful IUIs and two unsuccessful IVF transfers. When Samantha came to CPT, she didn’t know the cause of her infertility. Her therapist examined her and felt that she had the characteristic scarring, tightness, and restriction of a woman with endometriosis. The therapist worked to restore proper mobility and reduce adhesions in her pelvis.

After treatment, Samantha spoke with her doctor and decided to undergo diagnostic surgery for endometriosis. As it turned out, her physical therapist was correct: Samantha was diagnosed with endometriosis. After the procedure, Samantha underwent a fresh IVF transfer and became pregnant right away with twins. Two years after her twins birth, Samantha and her husband tried another round of IVF. They were disappointed when it didn’t work, but were then caught by surprise when Samantha learned she was pregnant naturally.

Samantha reported that she couldn’t attribute the success of her IVF transfer or pregnancy to just one treatment form. For her, it was the combination of conventional medicine and alternative therapies that helped. She told us, “It’s hard to say which treatment ‘worked’ for me. I think a large part of my success was learning to relax. My treatment at Clear Passage enabled me to become more familiar with my body and calm down. I know their treatment helped to restore balance in my body and mind, preparing me for my transfers and natural birth.”

Samantha’s full story, told in her own words, will be featured in our upcoming book Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain. Miracle Moms contains over 17 chapters and discusses how manual physical therapy can be used exclusively or in combination with other conventional treatment options. Please visit our website to learn more about our treatment for endometriosis, female infertility, and IVF transfers.

In our upcoming book, Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, we share over 75 stories of patients who came to Clear Passage Therapies (CPT) for help with chronic pain, female infertility, and female sexual dysfunction. An entire chapter in the book is devoted to endometriosis-related infertility. Over eight patient stories are included in this incredible chapter that explains how endometriosis and adhesions can cause infertility and what you can do about it.

One former patient featured in this chapter is Michaeleena, who struggled with infertility for four years. Michaeleena and her husband tried to become pregnant on their own for two years, but then decided to seek the help of a doctor. All the tests appeared normal for Michaeleena, so they started IUI treatments with Clomid®. After the fourth failed IUI cycle, she underwent diagnostic laparoscopic surgery and learned she had endometriosis. Her doctor told her that her left ovary and fallopian tube were covered by endometrial implants and her tube was completely blocked. To make matters worse, her right tube was barely open.

Michaeleena and her husband tried to get pregnant for a few months following surgery and then decided to try another IUI. When it didn’t work, Michaeleena felt distraught. Her doctors pushed her to have an IVF transfer because her FSH levels were high and she was “old” – age 38.

About this time, Michaeleena learned of CPT from a friend. After speaking with many massage therapists and physical therapists, she decided to attend an intensive week program. After treatment, Michaeleena was doubtful it would work, but told us, “I took Clomid just in case it did work.” To her surprise, she became pregnant the month after treatment. Her healthy son was born nine months later.

To learn more about our treatment, endometriosis and female infertility page. CPT also has years of experience treating endometriosis pain and discomfort. In our upcoming book, we also devote an entire chapter to endometriosis pain, its causes, and how physical therapy can help. To read current patient feedback about our therapy for endometriosis pain, please see our endometriosis patients speak page.

In Dr. Carolyn Demarco’s A Woman’s Bill of Rights, her 7th right states, “I have a right to choose natural therapies and not be ridiculed for doings so.”

It has unfortunately been my personal experience and that of many other women that this right is not upheld. Earlier in this blog, I shared the experience of Jocelyn, whose FSH level was 14.2. She refused traditional treatment options and decided to come to CPT. Jocelyn was originally discouraged from attending treatment by her reproductive endocrinologist (RE). When she asked her RE what he thought of CPT, he sternly stated it would be a waste of her time and money. Fortunately, she decided to attend and became naturally pregnant one week after treatment.

Another patient, Hannah, was diagnosed with endometriosis and blocked fallopian tubes. Her doctor told her she would never be able to become pregnant naturally. Hannah searched for alternative treatments and decided to attend treatment at CPT. Because she wanted to attend our clinic in California, she needed a referral form from her doctor. Hannah told us, “My doctor scoffed at the treatment and refused to sign the paperwork. I didn’t give up, and finally he reluctantly signed.” After treatment, Hannah returned to her doctor for a follow-up HSG. When he saw her test, he told her, “I cannot believe what I am seeing. You have the tubes of a 20-year-old that has never had any problems. There is no reason you cannot get pregnant.” Shortly afterward, Hannah became naturally pregnant and today has a healthy baby boy.

Unfortunately, experiences like Jocelyn’s and Hannah’s are not uncommon. We continually hear of women who are discouraged by their doctors to pursue natural treatment options. Luckily for Jocelyn and Hannah, they went with their intuition and were eventually able to have children. But for other women, the opinion of their doctors is enough to deter them from natural treatments that may be able to help – whether that be CPT, a mind-body program, acupuncture, or other treatment.

If your doctor has discouraged you from a natural treatment, first understand that he or she may be unfamiliar with this treatment and therefore cannot legally recommend it. You may need to provide your doctor with more information about the treatment you wish to try. If your doctor is still not receptive, it may be time to seek a second opinion.

By Jackie

Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of female infertility. In this condition, the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) is found in places outside of the uterus. It can cover the ovaries and prevent their proper function, such as the release of an egg. It can also squeeze the fallopian tubes shut from the outside or block them from the inside. Endometriosis that attaches to the outside of the uterus can also constrict or pull it. To confound the problem, endometriosis can also cause painful inflammation. Inflammation causes the body to produce and form adhesions. These “sticky” adhesions can restrict tissues and bind them to neighboring structures – which can also cause infertility.

When a woman who has endometriosis is trying to conceive, a doctor may recommend laparoscopic surgery to clear as much endometriosis and adhesions as possible. Many women are able to conceive after this procedure, but a large percentage of women are still unable to conceive afterward. Two possible explanations for this include:

A surgeon cannot remove adhesions or endometriosis in areas where the removal of tissue might compromise a woman’s fertility – such as the delicate fimbriea.

The surgery itself can cause adhesions to form. Thus, even though the endometriosis might be gone, the resulting adhesions can prevent fertility.

For women who are unable to conceive after laparoscopic surgery, a second surgery may be a risky option due to subsequent adhesion formation. Our treatment uses solely manual techniques to break apart, detach, and deform adhesions.

One of our former patients, Amania, learned she had endometriosis at age 18. Years later, Amania married and struggled to conceive. She underwent laparoscopic surgery but still couldn’t become pregnant. She tried a second laparoscopic surgery, followed by two IUIs – but with no luck. Amania told us, “I changed specialists three more times and had a laparotomy that cleared 80% of the endometriosis but left scarring.” She tried IVF afterwards, but it was unsuccessful.

After reading an article about our therapy, Amania decided to attend treatment. Two weeks later, she was feeling “off” and took a pregnancy test. “Lo and behold,” she told us, “The test was positive!”

Amania’s full story and those of 75 other CPT patients will be featured in the upcoming book, Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain. Please visit our endometriosis page to learn more about our treatment for endometriosis.

Andie, one of our former patients who struggled with infertility, was diagnosed with endometriosis. She underwent laparoscopic surgery, 7 months of hormonal shots, and 14 intra uterine inseminations (IUI), but was still unable to become pregnant.

Why couldn’t Andie become pregnant with the help of IUIs? An IUI can help sperm bypass the cervix and make it safely to the uterus, thus increasing the chances of pregnancy. However, if endometriosis is constricting the ovaries or fallopian tubes, the woman’s egg many not reach the uterus. Endometriosis may also cover the uterus, constricting it and causing it to spasm – which can prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.

Andie decided to come to our clinic to see if we could help her. We focused on reducing adhesions and restoring proper mobility to all organs and tissues in her pelvis. We paid special attention to her ovaries and fallopian tubes, ensuring her egg would have a “clear passage” to the uterus.

After treatment, Andie knew it was a good sign when her endometriosis pain was reduced. She told us, “My first ovulation after treatment was pain free.” That month, Andie became pregnant. She later delivered a healthy baby girl.

CPT has helped numerous women like Andie become pregnant. Andie’s full story and those of 75 other CPT patients will be featured in our upcoming book, Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain.
