Now with the amazing “Clear Passage” technique patients have a safe and effective alternative to surgery. “

“Miracle Moms” Authors Launch Social Media and News Website – Offers Hope to Six Million Women Suffering from Infertility

Friday, September 11th, 2009

The authors of ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain’ prepare for their September 15 book publication and announce the launch of their social media and news site on adhesions, infertility, sexual dysfunction, and pain.

Gainesville, FL, September 11, 2009 – ‘Miracle Moms’ co-authors Larry and Belinda Wurn, recognized leaders in non-surgical treatment for female infertility and chronic adhesion pain, launch www.miraclemoms.net. This new site is geared towards news and online social connections about subjects in their upcoming book, ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain: A Remarkable Journey in Hands-on Healing for Infertility, Pain, Sexual Dysfunction, and Adhesions.’

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, an estimated six million women in the US experience infertility, and that number is growing. Ovulation problems account for a big part of female infertility; warning signs include irregular or absent menstruation. Adhesions and blocked fallopian tubes are also major causes of infertility. Fallopian tubes can become blocked by adhesions after surgery, trauma, infection, or inflammation.

Adhesions can form whenever the body heals from infection, inflammation, surgery or trauma. Pelvic and abdominal surgeries such as laparoscopy, C-section or D&C are primary causes of adhesions. Traumas such as auto accident, fall, or abuse also cause adhesions. Infection and inflammation (endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or STD) can all cause adhesions to form in the bowel or female reproductive organs. As adhesions grow, they can restrict normal body function and cause pain and dysfunction, including nearly half of all female infertility.

Gainesville, FL (PRWEB) September 2, 2009 — Adhesions are a leading cause of female infertility, pain, and sexual dysfunction. Many women have avoided surgery for these conditions by using a ‘hands-on’ physical therapy, with proven scientific results.

In the upcoming book ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain,’ research gynecologist Richard King, MD joins Belinda and Larry Wurn to share a 20-year medical journey examining a physical therapy treatment to help patients achieve goals of pregnancy, better sex, and a pain-free life. Born from Belinda’s debilitating adhesion pain after cancer surgery, ‘Miracle Moms’ is a pioneering work.

Endorsed by Christiane Northrup, MD, ‘New York Times’ best-selling author (who wrote the Foreword) and physicians from Harvard, Columbia, Northwestern, and other fine medical schools, this book promises to usher in a women’s health revolution for the 21st century.

“A heartfelt thank you for providing women all over the world with such a safe, natural, and effective therapy to enhance fertility and pelvic health. Your work is a Godsend,” says Dr. Northrup.

With over 700 pages, ‘Miracle Moms’ is an elegant combination of more than 80 heart-felt patient narratives, and 20 years of theory, development, treatment, and published scientific research. More than 100 original illustrations provide a visual journey into the body and help explain how adhesions cause problems for so many patients and doctors, and why the unique manual therapy (Wurn Technique) was successful for so many women who were diagnosed “beyond help” by their physicians – until this therapy fulfilled their dreams.

The authors have published studies in some of the most respected peer-reviewed medical journals in the US. Studies in ‘Medscape General Medicine’ (2004) and ‘Fertility and Sterility’ (2006) showed that the therapy improved female fertility and decreased or eliminated endometriosis pain and intercourse pain in most participants. A major study in ‘Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine’ (2008) showed that the therapy opened totally blocked fallopian tubes in women who had been diagnosed infertile – a feat previously thought impossible. Most had natural pregnancies after their tube(s) opened. The therapy also provides hope for people with post-surgical pain and life-threatening bowel obstructions – common occurrences after surgery.

‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain’ will be published September 15, 2009 and available in bookstores for $29.95. www.miraclemoms.net

Providing Hope for Women with Unexplained Infertility

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

“The mystery of unexplained infertility is truly no mystery. There is always a cause; discovering the cause is the challenge.” – Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain

The new book, Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, seeks to demystify health conditions considered “unexplained” or “untreatable.” Authors Belinda and Larry Wurn devote an entire chapter of the book to unexplained infertility. They believe that when no known cause for infertility can be found, adhesions are the likely culprit.

Adhesions are composed of tiny strands of collagen. If the body is injured, collagen rushes to the area to help contain and repair the site. As the strands of collagen continue to build, they form adhesions. While helpful, these adhesions can also attach to neighboring structures, constrict organs and structures, and impair proper function in many ways.

Adhesions in the pelvic cavity

Adhesions in the pelvic cavity

Adhesions can form after a variety of common life events – so common that many women would never consider them as a probable cause for their infertility. Common events include bladder infections, yeast infections, inflammation of any kind, car accidents, falls, surgery, etc. When these events occur in or near the reproductive tract, pelvis, or abdomen, adhesions can constrict the area and prevent proper function. The sensitive structures of the reproductive system can easily become restrained, pulled, or adhered – leading to infertility.

The Wurns and other Clear Passage Therapies (CPT) therapists treat unexplained infertility by addressing adhesions. When a woman attends CPT for treatment of unexplained infertility, the therapists design an individualized treatment plan based on the patient’s medical history and a thorough physical evaluation. During the evaluation, therapists examine the patient’s body for signs of adhesion formation, including areas of pain, tension, immobility, imbalance, and malfunction.

Once the therapists have identified areas of adhesion formation, they use manual physical therapy techniques (collectively known as the Wurn Technique ®) to detach, deform, and disfigure these adhesions. The Wurn Technique ® enables proper mobility and function to be restored, thus decreasing pain, increasing function, and improving fertility.

In Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, over nine women with unexplained infertility share their journeys through infertility and how they eventually became pregnant with manual physical therapy. Miracle Moms Highlight: Medical Illustrator Joanna Culley

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

By Jackie

Belinda and Larry Wurn’s upcoming book Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain contains over 700 pages of educational text about numerous medical conditions including blocked fallopian tubes, chronic headaches, hormonal infertility, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction. The Wurns knew from the start they would need a medical illustrator to help visualize and explain the important role of adhesions in these conditions. But they were struck with one question: How could they find an illustrator with multi-faceted talent to create images in multiple mediums, medical expertise in multiple areas of the body, a genuine spirit of teamwork, and sensitivity to draw the female reproductive system in an accurate, yet feminine way?

Thankfully, the Wurns found medical illustrator Joanna Culley. Joanna, an honors graduate of Middlesex University in London, already had extensive experience with male and female anatomy. With a degree in Scientific and Medical illustration, Joanna’s portfolio of work showcased the delicate nature, attention to detail, and medical accuracy that the Wurns were seeking.

Joanna became an addition to the Clear Passage Team in April of 2008. Because the Wurns’ treatment is completely unique and relies on adhesions that are largely overlooked by physicians, there are very few medical photographs, images, or texts to reference. Joanna had to take the conceptual and written explanations provided by the Wurns and translate them into beautiful and enlightening images. Joanna used her numerous skills to capture the difficult images the Wurns requested. Joanna explains, “Creating interesting and clear drawings in just black and white was very difficult, which is why eventually I used a mixture of traditional ink and digital work.”

As the editor of the book, I was intimately familiar with the text of the book. It was incredible to see Joanna bring the words to life through her images. I was also a part of the image review and revisions process. As we edited the text and cut, moved, and added entire paragraphs and chapters, our need and specification for images would change. Many times, we had to ask Joanna to change or adapt an image based on our new needs. Every time, she promptly and beautifully made the changes we requested. We believe her stunning work is directly tied to her evident passion for medical anatomy. She told us, “I love the subject of anatomy, I have regular anatomy lessons and although it is a lifetime of learning, the subject never ceases the amaze me.”

Thanks to Joanna’s diligent work, passion, and talents, the book now contains over 100 didactic images. The Wurns, Clear Passage Team, and I are indebted to Joanna for her wonderful work that truly brings Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain to a whole new level. New images and some variations of images in the book will be showcased on the female infertility, sexual dysfunction, and chronic pain pages of our website in upcoming months.

Joanna remains committed to enhancing her skills and will become a Registered Medical Illustration Practitioner after completion of her post graduate degree in April of 2009. Joanna also recently won the Ronal Raven Bequest Award, which allows her to travel from the UK to the US to study one-on-one with a medical legal artist. Online Holiday Shopping: Seven Steps to Limit Back and Neck Pain

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Clear Passage Therapies offers seven steps to help shoppers avoid stiffness and back and neck pain while shopping online this Holiday season.

Gainesville, FL (PRWEB) December 3, 2008 – As the Christmas season begins, more and more shoppers are turning to their computers to find the perfect gifts. Clear Passage Therapies, a recognized leader in manual physical therapy for adhesions, pain, and infertility, offers seven steps to help online holiday shoppers ease or eliminate pain.

Larry Wurn, Director of Clinical Studies, Clear Passage Therapies, and co-author of a new book Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, says, “Poor posture and increased time at the computer can lead to head, neck, and shoulder pain and stiffness.”

Wurn suggests the following tips to improve online shopping stamina and avoid postures that can cause pain:

1)     Start with a solid foundation – find a good chair that supports your back and forearms.

2)     Your feet should touch the floor. If they don’t, use a footrest to give yourself additional support.

3)     Adjust the height of your computer screen to the same level as your eyes. Wurn says, “If your screen is adjusted too low, the muscles at the back of your neck work overtime, causing chronic neck and shoulder pain or headaches at the base of the skull.”

4)     Avoid hunching forward since this causes neck strain and spasm. If you keep a reverse curve in your low back, your upper body will generally be in a near-perfect position to relieve strain. You can put a small pillow or little section of the newspaper in your low back to remind you to sit up straight. According to Wurn, “When you need to lean closer to the screen, bend from the hips, not the low back.”

5)     Let your shoulders relax. The body is more stable when the shoulders are down, resting on the torso. If you are not sure whether your shoulders are relaxed, lift them once and then let them drop.

6)     Get up and move at least once every hour – more often if possible. Mobility is an essential part of life and helps avoid chronic pain.

7)     Support your forearms by placing them on the arm-rests of your chair. Ideally, your wrists should be slightly lower than your elbows.

Wurn writes more about chronic pain and posture, and treatment for people with chronic pain in Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, a book he is co-authoring to be published in January. The table of contents is available at the Clear Passage Therapies blog to spur discussions with readers on important topics. A free e-book excerpt from the book will be available in December at http://www.clearpassage.com.

Six Back-Saving Tips for Holiday Shoppers

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Clear Passage Therapies offers six back-saving tips to help holiday shoppers ease or eliminate back pain during an all-day shopping spree.

Gainesville, FL November 21, 2008 — Clear Passage Therapies, a recognized leader in manual physical therapy for adhesions, pain, and infertility, offers six back-saving tips for holiday shoppers hitting the malls and outlets this season.

“Your low back is the center and core of your body,” says Larry Wurn, President and Director of Clinical Studies, Clear Passage Therapies. “Taking care of your low back is key in maintaining a strong, healthy body overall.”

According to Wurn, the six major tips shoppers should use to reduce potential back pain associated with a long day of shopping are

  1. Wear comfortable shoes with good cushioning support; flip-flops and high heeled shoes are not recommended.
  2. Avoid carrying any weight (e.g. purse, presents, or a baby) on one side of your body. “Weighty objects should be carried close to the center of your body to minimize stress on your low. back,” he said. “Hold them in close – or use a back-pack attached evenly on both shoulders.”
  3. Condense your large purse to a smaller lightweight satchel to keep the excess weight to a minimum.
  4. When you can, use a cart instead of a hand-basket for your purchases. A cart will not only take a huge weight off your shoulders and back, it will lend valuable support to your low back.
  5. Don’t let the stress of shopping cause you to lift your shoulders. High shoulders are inefficient, carry less weight and can quickly cause neck pain or headaches during a day of shopping. Let your shoulders relax onto your chest; then use your arms to lift, keeping your packages low and close to your body.
  6. Concrete and tiled floors can be hard on the back so take regular breaks to sit, or elevate your feet. A 5 to 10 minute break off your feet for every hour of shopping is a good plan.

Wurn and his wife, Belinda, are currently co-authoring a book, ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain’, that examines their non-surgical manual physical therapy (Wurn Technique®). The therapy has been shown in peer-reviewed medical journals to reduce adhesions, decrease pain, and restore function. It has proven effective for many people without the risks or side effects of surgery or drugs. It can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other treatments.

‘Miracle Moms’ will be published this winter, with medical insights by research gynecologist and co-author Richard King, MD. A ‘sneak peek’ is available at the Clear Passage Therapies blog to spur discussion with readers on important topics. A free e-book excerpt chapter will be available in December at http://www.clearpassage.com.

Alternative Therapy for Adhesion and Endometriosis Pain Examined in New Book “Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain”

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

In an upcoming book, ‘Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain,’ researchers examine a non-surgical therapy to treat adhesion and endometriosis pain.

Gainesville, FL  (PRWEB ) November 19, 2008 – Endometriosis is a painful and debilitating condition for millions of women and girls, robbing them of their quality of life. While the cause of endometriosis is unknown, some pioneering studies about a non-surgical treatment are now bringing hope for some women.

In an upcoming book, Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain, gynecologist Richard King, MD and a physical therapy team examine a manual physical therapy (Wurn Technique®) that has decreased or eliminated pain associated with endometriosis for many women.

The Wurn Technique® was originally created to treat the adhesions co-author and physical therapist Belinda Wurn developed after pelvic surgery and radiation therapy following a diagnosis of cervical cancer. “I had double-over pain,” she said. “I could not work or stand up straight. It hurt to sit and even to breathe; the pain was unrelenting.”

After the Wurn Technique resolved Belinda’s pain, she was able to return to work. She and her husband, massage therapist Larry Wurn began treating other conditions related to adhesions. They soon learned that adhesions and endometriosis pain were intimately related.

Adhesions associated with endometriosis can cause pain anywhere in the body (abdomen, pelvis, low back). Dysfunctions such as poor digestion, irritable bowel, and infertility may also result from the adhesions and endometriosis. “We believe that the pull of adhesions on pain-sensitive structures is what causes the severe, debilitating pain in many women with endometriosis,” said Larry Wurn. “In fact, adhesions are frequently found in and near sites of endometrial implants.”

Women with endometrial implants often report a great deal of pain, which may occur

  • before and during menstruation (dysmenorrhea),
  • with ovulation,
  • with sex (dyspareunia),
  • with urination, bowel movements, diarrhea, or constipation.

While physicians do not know the exact cause of endometriosis pain, they often recognize an intimate relationship between endometriosis and adhesions; when they find endometriosis, they often find adhesions nearby.

The Wurns have published several studies on the Wurn Technique in peer-reviewed medical journals. Studies in ‘Medscape General Medicine’ (2004) and ‘Fertility and Sterility’ (2006) showed that the therapy improved fertility and decreased or eliminated endometriosis and intercourse pain in most participants. In a study from ‘Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine’ (2008) the therapy opened blocked fallopian tubes in women who had been diagnosed infertile. Many had natural pregnancies after their tube(s) opened, and some have had second natural pregnancies – indicating that the results of therapy lasted for years in some women.

Miracle Moms, Better Sex, Less Pain will be published this winter. The table of contents is available at the Clear Passage Therapies blog to spur discussions with their readers on important topics. A free e-book excerpt from the book will be available in December at www.clearpassage.com.
